Pr.as.do. - is a cultural association whose purpose is to improve teachers' ability to listen to pupils who feel ill-at-ease at school. The approach entails examining the individual components - teacher, pupil, parent, headmaster - and studying the relevant issues, according to a way of thinking that takes as its starting point the fundamental distinction between profession and competence. The method used is founded on the theory of psychoanalysis, and particularly on the interpretation made by STUDIUM CARTELLO. The association aims in the first place at promoting teachers' competence through a process of listening on the part of psychoanalysts. The teacher, motivated by the realisation that he or she is accountable for - i.e. involved with - the relationship with the pupil, must be willing - by his or her own initiative - on the one hand to correct an error and on the other to enhance his or her listening abilities, as these are the starting point of competence. The error, though it may take different forms, usually originates from the teacher's not acknowledging the "relational space" that exists between him/herself and the pupil. Hence the idea of "feeling ill-at-ease" that is the central focus of PR.AS.DO. To support this exercise the Association promotes various kinds of initiatives, such as meetings with teachers and parents in schools of all types, publication of its works and communication of the results in all appropriate forms, including electronic. Moreover it organises workshops and training courses for psychoanalysts with a specific interest in the subject, to whom it also guarantees appropriate supervision.
